BIS is implemented to avoid the dumping of low-quality products in India from other countries. BIS aims to ensure the safety of the Indian public.
When you buy BIS-certified products, BIS gives a guarantee of the Quality and Safety of products.
So, Consumers always try to buy BIS-certified products only.
You can check the Products under Compulsory Certification at the official website of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

How To Get BIS Certification?
Here we discuss how you can get the Bureau of Indian Standards certification to import products.
Which are listed under mandatory certification?
To get BIS certification, First, you need to import the sample product for testing.
You can import 1 to 5 PCS for testing purposes.
As I mentioned at the start of the article, this is the only way you can import the products without BIS certification.
But remember customs allow sample import only once for the same model.
After completing the customs clearance process of the imported sample product.
You need to submit Form VI along with supporting documents for the new certificate.

How To Import Without BIS Certificate?

You need to get a BIS certificate to import goods. Because your quantity is too much, you can only import sample shipment without BIS.

If the product is covered under BIS then you need to get a BIS certificate to import the goods, otherwise, you need to get prior permission from the concern department to import without a BIS certificate.

When we cleared the shipment, we gave the self-declaration that this imported material used to manufacture export products only, but the customs officer did not agree to accept the declaration. They are demanding that this exemption be included in the BIS list.

For example, if you import goods without BIS on 04/10/2021 but you need to produce a BIS certificate for the same within 90 days.

We have found a Non-Chinese source, the overseas producer has BIS certification for other stainless steel grades but they do not have BIS for that particular grade which we need to import. If we are importing Led Face Mask which contains Lithium Battery do we need a BIS certificate?
Also since we are importing this shipment from another country coming to Mumbai, India in this case who will provide the BIS certificate. Please advise.
If you are importing it with Battery then it’s your responsibility to get a BIS certificate. you can also import it without a battery to skip the BIS process.

As an importer, it’s your responsibility to check documents requirements before importing goods. Adoptor comes under the BIS category, So, you need to get BIS for the same.

Sir, Our customer is register under 100% EOU and they importing some products and covered under BIS , Since import is meant for EOU and 100% export so that BIS registration is not required ?

We are a USA company that specializes in the management and supply of discontinued Industrial Automation components. We have a customer that we have been working with for years that has many discontinued parts on their production lines. The parts we send them are fully refurbished with a warranty but we are not the manufacturer. Until recently, we have provided a CEC, COO, and invoice for customs clearance with no issues. We are now being told that the parts must have BIS or they will not clear customs. I have contacted the manufacturer and they said that they do not offer BIS on discontinued products. We currently have 3 orders stuck in customs and our customer is at risk of their production lines going down. Please advise what options are available.

We are currently working on a BIS Certification exception for a demo unit (IT Server/storage). My question is, how long can this demo unit be used for testing? If the demo unit becomes an official product for production, then I’m assuming at that time it will need the official BIS certificate?

Actually, the equipment used in hospitals is not used by hospital owners, it will be used on patients so, you need to get BIS for it.
